The Ghost Map, by Steven Johnson

Not quite the gripping page-turner it’s touted as, this chronicle of a cholera outbreak in 1850s London is still fascinating. Though nominally it’s about the change from thinking cholera was caused by miasma to thinking it’s water-borne, it’s more about the history of ideas and how false orthodoxies are overthrown. Fascinating stuff.
