A truly mixed bag. The mystery here is pretty engrossing, but it’s undercut by deeply wooden prose and awkward characters. It reads like a journalist wrote it, and that he identified a bit too much with his leads. An interesting contrast with 1974, which addressed some similar social issues much, much better.
