The Best American Crime Reporting 2009, ed. by Otto Penzler and Thomas H. Cook

This annual volume is always a pleasure. This year, more than any other I recall, the stories accumulate around Philadelphia (3-4 of the 15 stories are set, or have scenes, there). Philly crime is horrifying ? so many murders and senseless slaughter ? but this book makes it seem like a crime writer’s paradise.
