A crime/literary fiction novel tackling Black Lives Matter, the 1992 LA riots, and race. Most striking to me is how the moral vacuum created by absent leaders—political, legal, ethical, familial—opens the space for uncontrollable chaos and violence in the novel’s 1992 and its present. A grim theme for our time.
